A Brief History:
In 1967, Inola's Extension Homemakers Club decided the community needed
a library.  The school had been without one for several years until
1964. The club appointed a Library Committee in May of 1967,
consisting of Mrs. Win (Kay) Ingersoll - Chairwoman; Mrs. Bill
Krause - Secretary & Treasurer; Members:  Mrs. Henry Powers,
Mrs. L. D. (Willa) Littlefield, Jr., Mrs. Clyde Stout, Mrs. Herb Stout
and Mrs. Bob Ward.  The Town Board gave the club permission to build the library on
town property.

Dorothy Turner a long time Inolan, was hired as the Library
Director in 1983.  She ran the library alone. She established daily Library hours.
In 1989, an addition was completed funded thru a grant from Doctors' Hospital.  In 1992
the Library Board consisted of six members:  Kay Ingersoll, Willa Littlefield, Geneva Krause, Janet Kight, Marge Abeling, and T.L. Riggs.  In 1996 Gail (Oquin) Whitworth was voted in to replace Janet Kight on the Library Board.  In January, 1999, the library adopted computer automation software (Athena).    In March, 2000, Dorothy Turner retired as Library Director after 19 years.  In May, 2000, Linda Shaw was hired to take her place.  In July, 2000, Connie James was hired as Asst. Librarian.    In July 2003, Luther Martin replaced Marge Abeling as board member.

In 2004, through the generosity of Kay & Winn Ingersoll, the library was to have a new home across the street at its present location, 15 N. Broadway.  Kay & Winn contributed greatly to this in the way of purchasing the building and paying for the renovations required.  Furnishings and books were moved in November with the help of high school students, teachers, staff members and volunteers.  Linda Shaw retired as Director after 5 years in May 2005.  Connie James was hired as Director in 2005.  She retired in August, 2008, but later returned as an Assistant in June, 2009.  Paula Corle was Director from August, 2008, thru April, 2009.  Claudia Plett was hired as Director in May, 2009, and is the current Library Director.  Current Assistant Librarians are Connie James and Gail Whitworth.

The library currently has over 13,000 titles in its collection, now viewable on our online catalog.
